CANGGU BALI

The laid-back coastal village of Canggu makes a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of other tourism areas. It is a preferred destination for savvy travellers seeking an alternative to the urban sprawl of neighbouring Seminyak and the perfect base from which to explore the island of Bali at a relaxed pace.

Canggu still manages to retain a timeless ambience that is steeped in Balinese tradition. It offers lovely views of rice fields and the nearby black sand beach is popular with professional surfers such as Kelly Slater as well as those who appreciate a day of sun and sea topped off by a vibrant sunset.

Close at Hand

Canggu is one of the fastest developing areas on the island of Bali. However, it is still very much a traditional Balinese village blessed with productive rice terraces and a rugged stretch of coastline. You can find boutiques, café and restaurants all along Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong where Ametis Villa is located. Take a bike ride to explore the immediate surroundings.

Batu Bolong Beach is known by local and foreign surfers alike to be one of the best surf breaks on the island of Bali. Unlike Kuta Beach, Batu Bolong is much quieter and is the preferred destination for savvy travellers looking for an alternative place to relax. You can enjoy a refreshing morning walk along the shore, sunbathe during a day or watch the vibrant sunset.

If you prefer a more hip ambience, Old Man’s is one of many options for a great day out. You can rent surfboards at IDR 100,000 per day, while sun-loungers and umbrellas are available at IDR 50,000 per person. Batu Bolong Temple is where local members of the Hindu community come to pray on auspicious days on the island’s cultural calendar, especially during the full moon.

Echo Beach is a popular spot for surfers to catch a wave or two. There are a handful of casual restaurants overlooking the ocean to enjoy tasty meals at affordable prices. On the weekend, Echo Beach does a great barbecue dinner with live music to set the mood.

Seminyak is a vibrant playground where life is lived to the very fullest. The streets are lined with trendy boutiques, galleries and contemporary jewellery stores for avid shoppers. After dark there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and hip bars to wine, dine and party the night away. It takes about 25 minutes to get from Ametis Villa to Seminyak by car on days where there is little traffic.

Tanah Lot Temple is one of Bali's most celebrated attractions where travellers gather daily to experience a breathtaking sunset. This small temple, which is perched on a rocky islet and surrounded by pounding surf, is also a site of spiritual reverence for followers of the Hindu faith.

  • Complimentary drop-off and pick-up service by private car is available within Canggu and Seminyak areas
